Glad I bought it for my Canon T4i
GO TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS REVIEW FOR A COMPLETE LIST OF COMPATIBLE CANON CAMERA MODELS AS OF NOVEMBER 21, 2013 -- AND PLEASE PEOPLE, STOP ASKING ME IF THIS GADGET IS COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR CAMERA: GO TO THE CANON WEBSITE OR LOOK IN THE MANUAL THAT CAME WITH YOUR CAMERA! AFTER ALL, YOU NEED TO GO TO THE CANON WEBSITE ANYWAY TO GET FIRMWARE UPDATES. -------------------------------------------------------- First thing you should know is, yes this is compatible with the Canon EOS Rebel T4i 18.0 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 18-135mm EF-S IS STM Lens and probably with the Canon EOS Rebel T5i 18.0 MP CMOS Digital SLR with 18-135mm EF-S IS STM Lens as well since it literally the same camera. I was looking all over to find out if it was compatible, on Canon's website, in product reviews, in Google searches, but didn't find anything confirming absolutely that it's compatible--until after I bought it and found this information somewhere in the user manual. In any case, it works despite my model of camera not being listed in the product description. Most of all, it's nice to finally be in front of the camera for group shots and such without having to press the shutter button and then rush to a reserved spot in the crowd. It was also extremely helpful in making a new headshot for use in online profiles such as Monster, LinkedIn, Indeed and the like. Before this I had to rely on the photography skils of others taking just a few shots which never came out as I wanted them to. With the flip out screen of the Canon T4i I've been able to see myself in Live View, take multiple headshots myself, and then choose from the best of them. This wouldn't work nearly as well if I were simply using the timer setting. There is even a switch on the back to change between immediate shutter and two second delay--so that you can hit the button and get the remote out of site for the photo. It also works in Bulb Mode as well for shots such as Astrophotography and Fireworks, so you can enjoy the view and get the shots you really want to get without having to be tied to the camera. The remote works even at fifteen feet away or more. Since it's an infrared transmitter, it does not work from behind the camera--because the sensor is on the front of the camera--but otherwise it works as well as a wired trigger. Bottom Line: It's a wonderful tool to have, and the price is right. I recommend anyone with a compatible camera get one. ---------------------------------------------------- AS OF NOVEMBER 21, 2013, CANON LISTS THE FOLLOWING CAMERAS AS BEING COMPATIBLE WITH THE RC-6 REMOTE: -- Digital Rebel XSi -- Digital Rebel XTi -- ELPH Sport -- EOS 5D Mark III Body -- EOS 5D Mark III Body Refurbished -- EOS 5D Mark III EF 24-105mm IS Lens Kit -- EOS 5D Mark III EF 24-70mm F4L IS Lens Kit -- EOS 60D Body -- EOS 60D Body Refurbished -- EOS 60D EF-S 18-135mm IS Lens Kit -- EOS 60D EF-S 18-135mm IS Lens Kit Refurbished -- EOS 60D EF-S 18-200mm IS Lens Kit -- EOS 60Da Body -- EOS 60Da Body Refurbished -- EOS 6D Body -- EOS 6D Body Refurbished -- EOS 6D EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens Kit -- EOS 70D EF-S 18-135mm IS STM Kit -- EOS 70D EF-S 18-55mm IS STM Kit -- EOS 7D Body -- EOS 7D EF 28-135mm IS Lens Kit -- EOS 7D EF-S 18-135mm IS Lens Kit -- EOS Digital Rebel -- EOS Digital Rebel XT -- EOS Digital Rebel XT Black with EF-S 18-55 Lens Refurbished -- EOS Digital Rebel XT Silver with EF-S 18-55 Lens Refurbished -- EOS Digital Rebel XTi with EF-S 18-55 Lens Refurbished -- EOS ELAN 7 / 7E -- EOS ELAN 7N -- EOS ELAN II -- EOS ELAN IIE -- EOS M Black EF-M 18-55mm IS STM Kit -- EOS M Black EF-M 22mm STM Lens Kit -- EOS M White EF-M 22mm STM Lens Kit -- EOS Rebel SL1 Body -- EOS Rebel SL1 EF-S 18-55mm IS STM Kit -- EOS Rebel T1i (Body) -- EOS Rebel T1i Body Refurbished -- EOS Rebel T1i EF-S 18-55mm IS Lens Kit Refurbished -- EOS Rebel T1i with EF-S 18-55mm IS -- EOS Rebel T2 -- EOS Rebel T2i Body -- EOS Rebel T2i Body Refurbished -- EOS Rebel T2i EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit -- EOS Rebel T2i EF-S 18-55mm IS Lens Kit Refurbished -- EOS Rebel T3i Body -- EOS Rebel T3i Body Refurbished -- EOS Rebel T3i EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit -- EOS Rebel T3i EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit Refurbished -- EOS Rebel T4i 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit Refurbished -- EOS Rebel T4i 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit Refurbished -- EOS Rebel T4i Body -- EOS Rebel T4i Body Refurbished -- EOS Rebel T4i EF-S 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit -- EOS Rebel T4i EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit -- EOS Rebel T5i 18-55mm IS STM Lens Kit -- EOS Rebel T5i Body -- EOS Rebel T5i EF-S 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit -- EOS Rebel TI -- EOS Rebel XSi Body Refurbished -- EOS Rebel XSi EF-S 18-55mm IS Lens Kit Refurbished -- EOS Rebel XSi Silver Body Refurbished -- EOS SL1 18-55 IS STM Lens Kit Refurbished -- EOS SL1 Body Refurbished -- EOS T5i 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit Refurbished -- EOS T5i 18-55mm IS STM Lens Kit Refurbished -- EOS T5i Body Refurbished

Must have!!
Great to have on hand and with the casing that attaches to the strap of your camera, it will always be on hand for those times when a self or group portrait is needed. Under the remote, you have a switch for instant picture or set the timer for 2 seconds. Also works in Bulb mode, one click to open shutter and second click to close for extended shutter release beyond 30 seconds. Just get it, you will never know when you will need one and its great to have!! And as a side note, a lot of people are asking if it will work with their camera, here is the official list (Seems like all new cameras are added to this list as well): Product Compatibility List for Remote Control RC-6 Digital Rebel XT Digital Rebel XTi Digital Rebel XTi Silver ELPH 370Z ELPH Jr. ELPH Sport ELPH Z3 EOS 5D Mark III EOS 5D Mark III EF 24-105mm IS Lens Kit EOS 60D EOS 60D Body Refurbished EOS 60D EF-S 18-135mm IS Lens Kit EOS 60D EF-S 18-135mm Kit refurb EOS 60D EF-S 18-200mm IS Lens Kit EOS 60Da EOS 6D EOS 6D 24-105mm IS USM Lens Kit EOS 70D EOS 70D EF-S 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit EOS 70D EF-S 18-55mm IS STM Lens Kit EOS 7D EOS 7D EF 28-135mm IS USM Lens Kit EOS 7D EF-S 18-135mm IS Lens Kit EOS Digital Rebel EOS Digital Rebel XT (Black) EOS Digital Rebel XT EF-S 18-55 Kit EOS Digital Rebel XTi EF-S 18-55 Kit EOS Digital Rebel XTi EF-S 18-55mm Kit (Silver) EOS ELAN 7/7E EOS ELAN 7NE EOS Elan 7N EF 28-105mm Kit EOS Elan 7NE EF 28-105mm Kit EOS Elan II/IIE EOS M 18-55 Kit EOS M EF-M 22mm STM Kit EOS M EF-M 22mm STM Kit White EOS Rebel SL1 EOS Rebel SL1 18-55mm IS STM Lens Kit EOS Rebel T1i EOS Rebel T1i EF-S 18-55mm IS Kit EOS Rebel T2 EOS Rebel T2 Date Body EOS Rebel T2 EF 28-90mm III Kit EOS Rebel T2i EOS Rebel T2i EF-S 18-55IS II Kit EOS Rebel T2i EF-S 18-55mm IS Kit EOS Rebel T3i EOS Rebel T3i 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit EOS Rebel T3i Body Refurbished EOS Rebel T4i EOS Rebel T4i 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit EOS Rebel T4i 18-55mm IS Lens Kit EOS Rebel T5i EOS Rebel T5i 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit EOS Rebel T5i 18-55mm IS STM Lens Kit EOS Rebel Ti EOS Rebel XSi EOS Rebel XSi EF-S 18-55IS Kit EOS Rebel XSi EF-S 18-55IS Refurbished EOS Rebel XSi Silver Body Refurbished EOS_Rebel_XSi_Refurbished_Body RFD 6D BODY RFD EOS 60DA RFD RBL T1I RFD T1I RFD60D18-200 RFD7D18-135 RFD7D28-135 RFDREBEL T3I RFDREBELT2I RFDT2IBODY Refurbished EOS 5D Mark III Refurbished EOS Rebel T4I body Refurbished EOS Rebel T4i 18-55mm IS Lens Kit Refurbished EOS Rebel T4i EF-S 18-135IS STM Kit Sure Shot 130u Sure Shot 130u II Sure Shot Z115 Sure Shot Z135 Sure Shot Z155 Sure Shot Z180u Sure Shot Z180u Kit Sure Shot Z90W

Convenient and Reliable Remote for Canon Cameras
I've been using the Canon RC-6 Wireless Remote Controller since 2012, and it has been an invaluable accessory for my photography needs. The convenience of this wireless remote cannot be overstated. Whether I'm capturing self-portraits, group shots, or long-exposure images, the RC-6 allows me to trigger my Canon camera's shutter from a distance with ease. This eliminates the need for awkward self-timers or relying on someone else to press the shutter button for me. The compact design of the RC-6 makes it easy to carry around in my camera bag, ensuring that I always have it on hand when I need it. The responsive button and reliable wireless connectivity have consistently delivered seamless performance, allowing me to capture the perfect shot without any hassle. What's truly impressive is the longevity of this remote controller. Despite being purchased nearly a decade ago, it continues to work flawlessly in 2024. It's a testament to Canon's commitment to quality and durability. Overall, I highly recommend the Canon RC-6 Wireless Remote Controller to any Canon camera owner looking for a convenient and reliable way to remotely trigger their camera's shutter. It's a must-have accessory that has greatly enhanced my photography experience over the years.

Very Versatile in a Small Package
This remote offers a lot of versatility for a great price in a small package. First off, it works with "Bulb" mode which is great for certain applications (see photo in images). Many other remotes I came across did not offer this. It also allows you to change a 2 second shutter delay or instantaneous. The nice thing about this is that some other canon remotes only offer a 2 second shutter delay. This is great if you are in the shot and need to hide the remote out of view. But I also use the remote when I have my camera set up for tripod shots where you don't want to touch the camera in order to reduce camera shake (fireworks, macro shots, landscapes, etc). When I am using these applications I don't want to wait 2 seconds for the shutter. This offers both options which is great. The remote is also very compact, easy to slip in your pocket, or into the front accessory pocket of your bag for easy accessibility. This remote also works for starting and stopping video which is a nice addition with cameras such as the Canon EOS 7D 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-inch LCD (Body Only) , Canon EOS 60D 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD (Body Only) , or Canon EOS Rebel T3i 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera and DIGIC 4 Imaging with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens . As far as the inability to use this from behind the camera and others lowering their rating because of this, I was aware that it would not work from behind and it was something I was willing to deal with. Your IR receiver is in the front of the camera. This is not a fault of the remote, just how it works. Side note: For the customers that mentioned this not working with their camera, or anyone who is unsure. Go to the Canon USA website > Consumer and Home Office > Products > Cameras. Select your camera (if available) > Supplies & Accessories. Under the sub-section remotes, you will see the remotes that are compatible with your camera. EDIT: I have edited my review and docked one star after a recent experience with the camera. If you use this remote outdoors in sunlight, and especially in shaded areas with light breaking through (ie under trees). My recent experience ended up in quite a bit of frustration for family portraits (which included myself). I could not get the camera to fire from more than 6 feet away with this remote. Which is much less than the 16 foot range it advertises. Otherwise still a great remote.

Excellent wireless remote for Canon cameras
I purchased this remote to use with my Canon Rebel EOS T3i and it performs very well. I have it attached to the Canon neck strap on my T3i so I will always have it with the camera--or did so until recently for I have now purchased a Canon EOS 7D and have ordered another RC-6 to place on the 7D's neck strap--I won't always have the T3i with me when using the 7D and vice versa--yes, the 7D also supports IR remote shutter release. The unit is small, light weight, has a very long battery life, and as stated in the product description supports either immediate shutter release or a two second delayed release. The choice is switch selectable. Indoors, in a typical residential sized room, the IR beam will bounce off of walls and/or the ceiling and therefore trigger the shutter from virtually anywhere in the room. Larger rooms can make this 'bounce' method a bit spotty or if the room is large enough cause it to totally fail. Outdoors it is a different story. It is almost impossible to trigger the shutter from the rear or directly to the side of the camera especially on a bright day where the IR sensor can be swamped by IR from other sources. One must either extend the unit to the front of the camera or use a wired remote. One could say when using the RC-6 outdoors I've gotten used to standing behind the camera and holding the remote above and slightly to the right of the camera. From this point I get 100% reliable triggering and there is zero possibility of getting my hand or the remote in front of the lens. Most wired remotes have a very short connection so I find it more convenient to use the IR and not my wired shutter release. The only time I use the wired unit is for programmed shutter release. I recommend this unit for anyone with a Canon camera that supports IR triggering.

RC-6 on Canon T2i
I received the RC-6 and am using it on my Canon T2i. It worked flawlessly from the get-go. Just point it at the front of the camera and fire! That 10 second mad dash is history! The RC-6 can be held at a low angle from perpendicular, and it still works. There is also a switch on the back of the remote that lets you change from instant action to a two second delay, if you wanted to have the remote concealed in the picture. This feature is very easy to use. Don't forget to change the "drive mode" from "single shooting" to "remote;" your camera manual will explain that, if needed. When you're done using the remote, you'll need to restore the original setting, otherwise you'll get an unwanted delay in your shutter release. The RC-6 is very light weight, and smaller than I expected, but not in a negative way. Approximate dimensions are 2.5" tall, 1.25" wide, 0.1875" (3/16") thick (63mm X 32mm X 5mm). A few of the other reviewers said that the RC-6 was cheaply built, but I disagree with that assessment. Don't let the lack of weight fool you! Another point others made was the inability to use this remote from behind the camera while using a tripod. If you hold the remote with your right hand and point it toward yourself and in front of the camera's right side (next to the lens so that the IR signal will work on the camera, and so you don't get your hand or remote in the picture), you can trigger the shutter release while standing behind the camera. If you're using a shorter lens, you can always angle your remote hold position. This process is not as convenient as using the corded RS60-E3, for example, but it'll due in a pinch. It's a very nice remote and comes with a matched carrying case. You can't go wrong, and the price is right!

Didn’t work and it didn’t arrive with any kind of instruction
Upon arrival, it didn’t come with any instructions or any way of figuring out how to actually use the device I hit the button and no light turned on like other units I’ve seen. I had absolutely no idea how to figure out how to use this thing and after a while I just decided to put it on the back burner and focus on some other stuff. It’s outside of Warranty and I thought to myself maybe it just arrived with a dead battery. I put a new battery in here and still nothing. From what I could tell either it was defected to begin with or just a faulty design. I couldn’t make it work so I had to order something else from somewhere else and it should be arriving soon. I couldn’t make mine work at all and with no instruction manual I almost feel like it wasn’t meant to work. Obviously maybe some of you’ve had different experiences but for me, I would not buy this again nor would I recommend it to anyone that I know

Works with 5D MKII/III & 6D!
The Remote Controller RC-6 allows vibration-free remote firing of the shutter, making it ideal for long exposures on a tripod, macro, jumping in a group photo or selfies with a pole. It can also start/stop video recording. The RC-6 works with any EOS camera with an IR receptor, e.g., most Rebels, 10S, all Elan models, IX/IXE, 60D, 70D, 7D, 6D, 5D MKII and 5D MKIII. It is not compatible with the 1D series. The RC-6 is primarily designed to trip the shutter from the front of the camera--hence an IR receptor on the camera grip--and is effective at 15 feet or nearer. You have a choice of immediate release or 2-second delay. The camera must be in self-timer mode in order to use the RC-6. It will also fire the shutter from above, below or to the side of the IR receptor (on grip) so it makes a fine cable release. You'll need to experiment as the sweet spot behind, above and off to the side of the camera varies with individual models. Outdoors (no reflective surfaces), my 5D MKII triggers from 9 or 10 inches behind and above the camera whereas my 7D needed the RC-6 just above the grip area and angled downwards. Also, infrared beam coverage increases when reflective surfaces are present. In a small white room I can randomly fire at walls, ceilings and floors behind the camera and the reflections still trigger it. The RC-6 also works with bulb and mirror lockup (MLU). For bulb exposures, fire the RC-6 once to open the shutter and again to close it. For mirror lockup (with appropriate CF set), fire the RC-6 set to 2 second delay: the mirror immediately swings up and the exposure is made 2 seconds later. MLU is not available with some Rebel series cameras. To trigger video recording, set the RC-6 to 2-second delay (flip switch on back), set self-timer mode on the camera and be in LiveView with video mode active. Simply press the RC-6 once to start recording. Press again to stop. If you need a shake-free method of firing the shutter for long exposures, want to avoid plugging in a cable, or need to get yourself in the picture or video, the RC-6 is a great way to go.

Read this before buying! Great piece of kit for some applications
This is a great piece of kit for what it is and for the price. Seems like a few people ordered this without understanding what it does or how it does it, so before buying read on,.. This is an infrared remote control (not wireless) so you have to point it directly at the receiver on the camera, which on most compatible cameras is on the front of the camera near or on the grip. It works like your infrared TV remote by line of sight (although it may bounce off walls if you are inside). It is unlikely therefore to work if you are behind the camera, if the lens is obstructing the sensor on the camera and definately will not work through walls or other obstructions. Being infrared it is also affected by sunlight (which contains UV and IR light) so the range is reduced outside. It is also only compatible with newer model Canon digital SLR cameras so check your manual before you buy to make sure your camera is compatible. This remote is really ideal for taking pictures of yourself or you in a group to save you pressing the button, then running in front of the camera to take up a pose! Or taking shots from a tripod where you can point the remote at the front of the camera to save you pressing the button and introducing camera shake. For the price, buy it and keep it in your bag for when you need it. For other applications, buy a more expensive wireless or cable remote... Update Had this remote for some time now and continues to work well, I can also confirm it works fine with a Canon 5D MKiii
