This 50-something Player Really Enjoyed It
I'm not the typical gamer and as a guy that recently turned 58, my tastes aren't the same as the teenage and 20ish crowd. I tend to like role playing games where I can explore and where I can build my character's abilities and arsenals. Games that I enjoyed include Skyrim, Far Cry 3, Bioshock Infinite, Resident Evil 4 (and, to a lesser extent, 5), and a few others. I had some trepidation when I ordered Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition but was pleasantly surprised. The graphics are nothing short of stunning, the story line is engaging, and there are just enough options for exploration to make this a truly enjoyable game and experience. FWIW, I haven't gotten into any of the mufti-player games as yet; normally, those aren't a big attraction for me but the one time I did try to get in, TR wasn't able to locate any games for me to join. PROS - As noted, the graphics are really something to behold. -The story line is fun and engages you from the beginning - The controls are well laid out and easy to master - The weapons while limited are fun to customize as you stumble across components and earn credits - During the game play, there are side quests for most areas of the island on which you find yourself stranded to include optional tombs to explore each with its own puzzle to figure out. - As you progress, you will encounter "camps" where you can rest up from the battles and from which you can freely travel back and forth between areas that you have already explored. This allows you to go back and work some more on the side quests (finding artifacts, area specific challenges, and so on), do some game hunting, or just explore. (At the end of the game, you can also go back to the island to freely explore and work on the puzzles as well.) - The battles are mostly fun though see my Cons for a couple of annoyances. Aiming is easy and intuitive and selecting weapons is mostly logical and easy. - Some of the battles are tough to get through but TR does a number of automatic saves so that if you get killed (and you will), you don't have to go back to the very beginning of each encounter. CONS - My biggest gripe was that some of the challenges are solved by split-second timing of pressing this button followed by that button trying to match on-screen prompts. Fortunately, the buttons that you have to press are always the same allowing you to memorize the sequence as you invariably get killed if you aren't quick enough to respond to the on screen prompt. HINT: pressing the button just a little before the on screen prompt is okay and helps during the melees later in the game. - While mufti-player action usually isn't a big draw for me, I did try to get into the multi-player area once and kept getting messages that Tomb Raider was unable to find a game. I don't know if that was a temporary server issue or if that reflects not a lot of players available. - I think most of the replay value of the game is likely to be in the multi-player area along with going back to the island to locate as yet unfound artifacts and solve unsolved puzzles. I have no desire (for now) to play the game over from the beginning.

Great visuals, storyline, gameplay! A sleeper hit imo for the one.
I purchased this game when it was a gold box deal at $39.99. Like many others I was hesitant to buy this because it was previously released and being sold for $60. But you have to understand from the developers end that they're not just going to vamp up a game then sell it for a lower price. For its value you're getting the all the dlc's. So if you never paid attention to Tomb Raider when it came out on the last gen, I suggest picking this game up especially since nothings out yet until Titanfall. But if you have played it before I would suggest trying to get this game at most $40. This game really does have great visuals and since I didn't play the previous gen to compare to, imo it looks amazing. I know some care about oh the PS4 version plays at 1080p blah blah blah. Honestly I'm in it for a game that has a great storyline, and something that's fun. I chose the Xbox One because I prefer their exclusives, Titanfall, Dead Rising 3 and Halo 5. I'm about 2 hours in but with great exploration. My preference in these kind of games is to explore every nook and cranny to see what I can find and do. The storyline is great so far and is something refreshing than the typical shooters I play. For those who have owned a PS3, the game play is similar to the Uncharted series. But comparing to a big dog series like Uncharted it doesn't take anything away from Tomb Raider. I like how when Lara is near enemies walking near anything that can be used as cover she automatically does it herself. You really get the sense that shes scared and needs to hide, plus not wasting a button feature to lock on to cover. Overall I'm really enjoying the game and I highly recommend. UPDATE (3/1/14) I just finished the game and working on the single player achievements. This game is for sure a MUST BUY especially if you didn't pick this up on the last gen. The storyline was action packed, the character growth of Laura was an amazing journey and the graphics are beautiful. As of now I own Dead Rising 3, BF4, Assassin's Creed 4, Thief and Tomb Raider. Out of the 5 I would hands down say Tomb Raider was my favorite. I haven't ventured yet into multiplayer but I will to accomplish hopefully all of the achievements. The single player campaign was amazing and I was lucky to get it on a gold box deal. If you haven't picked this game up or played it yet, this is game is imo a must buy. I loved it! WAY better than I thought it was!

Not as much of an upgrade over the 360 version as I had hoped
I had already won this on the 360, but wanted to see how it played on the Xbox One. The achievements wouldn't hurt, but not being an achievement hunter, that wasn't much of a factor. Game play is pretty much identical. The hair is finer, and more detailed, the water scenes seemed a bit better, but all in all, not having played them next to each other for direct comparison, I really didn't notice anything that jumped out at me otherwise. But past the comparisons, it's still a fun game to play. I like the paths for advancement, and weapon upgrades. It's nice to get to decide where you want to focus your abilities, since I know some people prefer guns, others prefer the bow, so you can pick what you want to improve first. Sound is well done, the surround working well on my system. The controls are fine once you get used to them, although I've never been a fan of cinematic movie scenes where you have to press A at the right time, etc... The puzzles aren't too difficult, so sometimes things are just a bit easy, but the fact that you can wander freely for a lot of the game helps offset that. It's linear where you have to go, but you're not locked in having to follow only the storyline directly, you have freedom to wander. The landscapes are pretty impressive in some places, amazing detail and it's just visually astounding when you're up on something high looking down. All in all, if you haven't played this on another system, it's definitely worth getting. If you have, you can easily pass.

Best tomb raider game ever
I love this game

Awesome next gen port of a fantastic reboot!
I give Tomb Raider 5 stars because I liked it enough to play through it twice, and then even went back through to collect all the items I missed and complete all of the challenges. The story is fairly engrossing, more towards the end than the beginning. I found myself actually caring about what I was doing and the well being of the NPC's. The gameplay is also top notch. It is definitely one of the best action adventure games I've played. There are a few different weapons you acquire throughout the game. A bow, pistol, assault rifle, and shotgun were enough to keep me entertained. All of your weapons and equipment are also upgradeable as you progress through the game, which keeps them feeling fresh. The combat is very fluid and enjoyable and isn't hard to pick up quickly. There isn't as much puzzle solving as previous games in the franchise, which I didn't mind at all. I played both the Xbox 360 version and the Xbox One version. The last gen version looked good, the current gen version looks incredible. The environments are much more detailed, Lara herself is much more detailed, and her hair just amazed me. I've never seen hair in a video game look and behave so real and naturally. If I had one negative thing to say, it is the quick time events were sometimes a little frustrating. If you mess up or get excited and it the wrong button, Lara will die a gruesome death and you will have to try again. Some of the deaths were sort of cool, in a morbid sort of way, so that sometimes made failing a quick time event a little less painful. I would recommend this game to anyone, especially fans of the previous games, as well as fans of the Uncharted series on PlayStation 3. Tomb Raider is definitely a step in the right direction for this veteran franchise.

good game but Rise of the Tomb raider is better
I'm 71 & like a good video game once in a while esp w great graphics as have a high test TV & always play the easy level.. While I finished The Shadow of the Tomb raider" pretty easy {the young dudes call it "beating the game"} I wasn't crazy about this one w all the combat combat -hard for me even on the easy level w not too many tombs to raid - the "shanty town" level drove me nuts - I got tired of it & started "rise of the tomb raider" which has just enough combat but w more tombs to raid - the point of this review is to say - if choosing this one against, "the rise of the tomb raider or the shadow of the tomb raider, for old dules like me - choose those 2 over this one - I know this review will only appeal to a small group of people

Tomb Raider reborn
** Plot Summary: You play as a young (early to mid twenties) Lara Croft, a novice archaeologist only just starting out in her grave-exploring career and not yet the hardened femme fatale of previous games. You are part of a diverse archaeological crew of young researchers led by an arrogant and prissy college professor. You begin your journey aboard the Endurance, a salvage ship captained by Roth, a tough ex-military man turned freelance treasure hunter who took you under his wing after your parents' disappearance, teaching you many crucial survival skills along the way. While searching for a lost Japanese civilization, the Endurance is buffeted by a deadly storm which leaves you shipwrecked in a mysterious island -- one filled with cryptic tombs, hostile cults, and dangerous wildlife. It is here where you begin an exciting tale of survival and intrigue, as you struggle to not only rescue your separated crew, but also unlock the secrets of the Island, and the ancient peoples that once inhabited it -- and It is through this trial by fire, that young Lara is forged into the deadly and legendary Tomb Raider we all know and love. ** This is, without a doubt, one of the best video game reboots ever made, and any Xbox gamer who is still depressed over the fact that we didn't get any Uncharted games would do well to pick this baby up. Anyone familiar with the Tomb Raider series already knows the basic structure of this game -- it is a third person, action/adventure/shooter with puzzle elements. The difference is that this Tomb Raider game gives us a very different protagonist than the one we are used to. Now, first of all, it must be said that the graphics in this game are beautiful (Be aware that this is technically an Xbox 360 game, so the graphics are not technically next gen, but they are still damn good). The detail in the scenery and in the facial features of the characters is impressive to say the least. As far as gameplay, the platforming aspects of the game are great -- the controls are tight, and level design is quite varied. The set pieces are well though out, and combat never feels clunky or unreponsive -- the shooting is precise, and once you get used to it, you will be wasting dudes left and right with your bow and arrow alone. There are a few instances where it feels like a shooting gallery and you just have to fight off swarms of enemies, but these aren't too bad, and they are spaced out enough so that you don't get tired of them. There are some puzzle elements in the game, nothing too complicated. One thing the game definitely does perfectly is setting up the mood and ambiance -- you really feel like you're in a mysterious and remote island, Lara is constantly covered in dirt, mud, or blood, giving a really visceral feeling to the whole experience. The voice acting is superb, and Lara truly sounds like she is vulnerable and afraid and only just learning the ropes when it comes to killing people and surviving in a hostile environment. What's more, cutscenes are all done with the in-game engine, and they flow smoothly from the gameplay (a la Uncharted) so that the entire game feels like a fluid cinematic experience. Overall, this game is a damn fine reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise, and it is definitely a must buy for any fans or for anyone that likes action/adventure games or Indiana Jones-esque adventures.

Lara Looking Even More Beautiful. But Worth The Price Tag?
This rating automatically gets 5 stars because the game is simply amazing. Amazing story, amazing environment, amazing cutscenes. The game shows how Lara gets beaten, broken down, and is rebuilt as a survival machine. I can't wait for the next part in this franchise. The Definitive Edition is really definitive. You can see that the graphics are way better than the Xbox 360 version. Lara looks gorgeous, and the environment is realistic. One thing I did notice is that they focused too much on her hair. You can see almost every strand of hair, but why is her hair so shiny? Her hair stays glossy and perfect, even in rough situations. Her body can be scratched up and covered in blood, but her hair looks like she just came out the salon and tied her hair up. Is it worth $60? If you played the game before, no. If you haven't, yes. I got it when it was on sale for $40. No way was I paying another $60 for a game I played less than a year ago. It's messed up how the publishers put another $60 price tag on a game that was already finished. All they needed to do was upgrade the graphics. $40 should've been the max price.

Um jogo incrível.
O primeiro jogo do reboot da franquia é absurdo. Tem legendas em português, ação, história e final incríveis e de todos os jogos até hoje em 2025 é o que tem os melhores sons dos tiros.
